A to Z of MSAlprostradil

Product name

Caverject, MUSE, Viridal Duo

Alprostradil is a vasodilator for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The NICE Guideline states that treatment with alprostradil may be considered where general and specific factors that cause or worsen erectile dysfunction have been assessed and there has been no response to sildenafil (Viagra).

How alprostradil works

How alprostradil is given

Alprostadil in the form of MUSE is administered by application into the opening at the end of the penis (urethra). Alprostadil is also available as an injection for injection directly into the penis (Caverject or Viridal Duo) or as a gel.

Side effects and contraindications

Common side effects can include prolonged erection lasting more than one hour, headache and dizziness and pain in the penis or urethra.
