MS Nurse Appeal

The MS Trust has always supported MS nurses like me. I really appreciate the support they offer us and our patients.

MS nurse

I have learnt how valuable MS nurses are after I woke up one morning completely blind. My MS nurse was my angel and helped me through 5 very frightening weeks as my vision came and went in alternate eyes. I don't how I would have coped without her, I was very lucky.

Person with MS

MS nurses are vital to people with MS.
We need your help now to protect our nurses.

If you are affected by multiple sclerosis, you will know what a difference it can make to have access to an MS specialist nurse.

However, changes happening now within the NHS mean that quality healthcare for people with MS could be seriously compromised. Specialist MS services are already stretched in many areas of the UK, but with funding being lost or reassigned, some vacant posts are not being replaced and other posts are under review.

In the face of this, MS specialist nurses are turning to the MS Trust to help them fight to keep their services safe for their local MS community. We are doing all we can to tackle this problem head on, but we need your help, which is why we are asking you to make a contribution towards our MS Nurse Support Programme.

We are working closely with MS specialist nurses whose jobs are under threat right now or whose time is being diverted from helping people with MS. We are helping them gather evidence to support their case and we are lobbying in their local communities to demonstrate what an essential and cost-effective service they provide.

The MS Trust is working to take the pressure away from nurses so that they can go back to what they do best - supporting their patients.

Over this past year alone, we have worked closely with six MS nurses whose jobs were at risk of being lost. If these posts had gone, it could have affected over 3,000 people living with MS now. Our support meant that these six nurses had the resources and confidence they needed to fight their corner and to secure funding to keep their services safe for their patients.

We know that there are people with MS out there now living in areas with no specialist nurses, or with nurses whose services are compromised because they have more patients than they can manage. If you are one of them, you will know how difficult that can be. We understand that there is still a great deal of work to be done to ensure everyone has access to the best specialist support, but we have come a long way. Just 15 years ago there were only a handful of MS specialist nurses and we now have 240.

We are determined not to let the progress we have made be in vain, but we can't do this alone. We estimate that we will need to raise £120,000 to fund our work supporting MS nurses over this coming year. We understand that many people are feeling the pressure financially at the moment, but we would be grateful for whatever you can afford and we will make very good use of your donation.

If you can donate now or even commit to a regular standing order, you will be helping to provide resources, education opportunities and support networks to ensure MS nurses have everything they need to manage the needs of their patients. You will also be funding one-to-one mentoring and guidance, providing essential support for MS nurses whose posts are under threat.

We look forward to making your donation work hard in our fight to secure the best quality of care for people with multiple sclerosis.
