Father and son reach summit of Kilimanjaro
Matthew and Richard Longbottom raised over £5,800 when they trekked to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in January 2010.
Matthew decided to climb Kilimanjaro and fundraise for the MS Trust after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2008. His dad Richard agreed to join him on the challenge so that they could give each other encouragement to reach the top. After a tough slog they reached the summit of Kilimanjaro on 28 January 2010 and their sponsors have recognised their fantastic achievement by donating generously to what Matthew calls 'a massively worthy cause'.
Matthew realised how little people know about MS following his diagnosis, and he says that he hopes that his trek will inspire others and prove 'that life doesn't have to stop because you have MS'. He would like to do tougher and bigger challenges in the future - though we can't imagine what will be much tougher than climbing the world's highest free standing mountain!
