Land's End to John O'Groats

Mike Howe cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats in June/July 2009, with the support of his wife and their daughter Catherine.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the Howe family for raising a fantastic £4,327 in sponsorship for Mike's ride. Catherine tells us all about the ride below...

"I am proud to say that my Dad, Mike Howe, has completed a Charity Cycle Ride from Lands End to John O' Groats starting on 7th June 2009 in aid of the MS Trust. My Mum and I supported him on the journey in a motor home.

"Unfortunately the journey didn't go exactly to plan as on the 3rd day in Wells, Somerset, Dad had a slight accident and cut his leg on his bike sprocket, luckily I was with him at the time and emergency services were there in record time. Dad was taken to Glastonbury hospital and twenty stitches later was told he could not continue until the stitches had been removed 10 days later, therefore we headed home.

"The journey started again at Wells on Sunday 21st June 2009 and we arrived in John O'Groats on Thursday 2nd July at 10.45am after covering 987miles in 87 ½ cycling hours. Dad completed the journey on his own, apart from one day when his friend joined him and I also joined him for about 80 miles of the journey at various points along the way.

"We only set ourselves a target of £1,500 and when the money kept coming in it was slightly overwhelming at times, especially when I received letters with very kind comments from people who I hadn't been in contact with for years. We all enjoyed the organising and Dad really enjoyed the cycling." Catherine Howe
