The making of MS Together
The MS Trust developed MS together with award-winning independent producer Nick Shipley. He writes about how the project came about.
"I have been working in the television and corporate video industry for most of my working life. In the early 90s news came that a friend's partner had been diagnosed with MS.
"I learnt that access to good information and advice about the condition was not to be taken for granted. For instance, I never knew that it is quite likely that a family GP, most people's first point of contact with health services, may only encounter one case of MS in a lifetime of practice. I was determined to do something to help. My idea was to produce a video that would inform and educate those who have been newly diagnosed with the condition.
"We had filmed across the country, meeting so many wonderful contributors on the way - people with MS who recounted their personal journeys and healthcare professionals who gave up time from busy schedules to participate. In talking to them I soon realised how valuable our project might be, especially considering that nothing like it had gone before. I sincerely hope the video makes a difference for all who see it."
