Care about the carers

I may be the last person who has seen the Action for Children – Nicola’s Story advert, but I was alerted to it on facebook today. It seems some people have been a bit upset by it, saying that it portrays MS in a very scary way. I am not sure exactly what I think of it. MS is so different from person to person and the mother mentioned in this advert is of course someone who has it really bad. See for yourself. (more…)

“First you gotta speed it up then you gotta slow it down”

Sorry about the Bucks Fizz reference, but then again I don’t know how many people, since I moved to the UK, have shouted random Abba lyrics at me, so it is only fair! I have been thinking a lot about what the midwife told me at the hospital, about needing to slow down. I guess in a way she might be right, on the other hand far from it. With me it tends to be two speed settings, full throttle or total standstill. (more…)

How to Explain MS Fatigue

For me, one of the trickier things about having MS is how to explain fatigue to other people. So many times people have asked me how I am, and when I say “tired”, they reply with “Yeah, me too. I was up all night at a party and only got two hours’ sleep”. To which I can only reply “Oh, I went to bed at 10 and slept for 8 hours.

Falling and Vertigo

When I woke up on Monday, my husband looked out of the window and went “Oh, snow”. He commutes into London, so snow equals delayed trains and not much fun at all. As for me, I was a bit annoyed. I had been hoping for a white Christmas, not a white day for my first time back at work after ten lovely days off. Once I got down to the kitchen and saw the snow outside the window, I decided it was time to dig out my hiking boots.
