Tycho finally put on some weight this week. We have been running operation Hanzel here, feeding him up. I gave in to giving him some more formula, so he get 3 bottles a day with formula, plus anything I have managed to express. I refuse to do what the GP said last week and “pack it in” as the breastfeeding for me is very important. Yes I have to think of my own health and not stress out over this, but comforting a sad and crying baby with a bottle…well it just isn’t the same. Plus he gets terrible wind after gulping down the bottle and cries after each bottle feed. Each to their own I say, you just got to do what is important to you and your baby, if that is breastfeeding, mixed feeding or formula feeding. But during this last week he put on 200 grams, and the gp was happy. (more…)

Passing motions and such things
15th June 2009 by Hellie
One thing is for sure, when you have children you can’t be prude when it comes to talking about things. My days seems to be filled these days talking about, poop, nipples and god knows what bodily fluids. Had to call NHS direct this weekend because Tycho hasn’t well…done a poo for 9 days. But how do you say this politely without using baby words or slang. Me and Steve were just looking at each other and in the end I drew the short straw and called. I guess after birth and especially with a c-section when you need some extra help you just loose most of your dignity and inhibitions anyway. But now we know what word to use ” pass a motion”.
Tycho’s hasn’t passed a motion for 9 days, we have now after talking to the health visitor tried to give him some cool boiled water, but still nothing. Next step is to try some orange juice. He does however pass gas…extremely smelly gas. I am meant to go out for lunch tomorrow and I am scared my little man will stink the house out.
Passing motions by the way…I thought that was what politicians did…but then again, with what has been in the news recently it does seem like that is exactly what they have been doing in Westminster.

Quick Sunday update
14th June 2009 by Hellie
Well first of all he did put on some weight, but only tiny he is up from 3.55 to 3.66, still under his birth weight. I am hoping to have some help from someone from the breastfeeding network to double check my latch-on really is ok. I don’t think my milk supply is all it should be. Have been looking online to see if this ever can have anything to do to MS and there seem to be nothing proven but I have seen people with MS in forums saying they have had problems with low milk supply, so who knows. I don’t think that is it, but funny enough my left breast always got more milk when I pump and it is my right side that has been effected my my MS is the past, never had any issues on the left, but right leg, arm and torso have all had bouts with MS symptoms during relapses. But like I said I can find nothing that proves that this would be an issue, so it is probably more likely to be my latch on that is an issue.

Week 7
11th June 2009 by Hellie
I really thought I’d have more time to update this blog! But I find I rarely have both hands for disposal. Tycho is tricky to get to settle in his basket during day time and often ends up sleeping on me, so I end up doing the one handed typing most of the time. He still hasn’t gained back his birth weight. It is now week 7 (!!!) and last week he weighed 3.55 kg, his birth weight was 3.7. He is getting weighed tomorrow…or rather today, as it is 3:15 am as I type this. I really hope he will have put something on, but I doubt it as we have tried standing on our bathroom scales with him to work out and weight gain, and if any it will only be a few grams. (more…)
