My nausea seems to have gone away, but sadly it was replaced with a backache and a splitting headache. Why is it that as soon as I was aware of being in the third trimester it seemed like my belly suddenly got huge, and my back aches all the time! Grrrr
Anyway, enough of the complaining. I have been up to a bit more the last few weeks apart from working, falling down stairs and cleaning. We have signed up for some antenatal courses which we will be starting in March. I am looking forward to this as I have not really got a clue about babies, and have been scaring myself by reading lots of ”what to expect” books. Now I live in fear of no sleep for a year, colic and weird skin conditions.
When I was 15 we had something at school called “child knowledge”, which was one class a week for 6 months about babies, how to make them and bring them up. A lot of this was a bit of a pain, as a class filled with 15 year old boys watching a birth on video wasn’t all that great. Us girls probably just thought “never ever”. Sadly we never got to do those things you see at American schools where they get to look after a screaming robotic baby doll. But it seemed to have worked well anyway as I believe only one girl in my year ended up being a teenage mum, and that was a year after leaving school anyway.
But it is safe to say that all those classes taught me, I have forgotten by now 16 years later. So this year on my husbands birthday we will be sitting in a group with other parents to-be, discussing soiled nappies and baby puke. Last year we went to Seattle and lived the life of Frasier in lots of coffee houses and visited Bruce Lee’s grave. A bit different from this year then…poor Steve. But I am still looking forward to it, hopefully there won’t be a written exam after the course…the practical exam in April is scary enough!
