Baby, MS and Me Home

Sleeping, Crying and Teething

Went to see the health visitor at the heath centre yesterday, had my little guy weighed and asked if our suspicions about him teething were correct, and it does seem that he is. She did point out it may be a few months of yet before we actually get to see any pearly whites. So we can try some teething gel if it gets really bad. So far we have only given him Calpol. He is not too bad really, but if something else is something else is bothering him like lack of food or sleep, then he can have a huge crying fit were the tears are flying and his little face goes tomato red.

Speaking of lack of sleep, I was reading in a book today that babies that are four months old should sleep for a total of 15 hours per day. I think Tycho maybe manages 9. Around 7 or 8 at night and then hardly ever a nap longer than 30 mins during the day. So I really think I need to get better at this sleeping malarkey. As he is getting far too big for his moses basket, we have bought a travel cot to go in our bedroom. His normal cot is far too big to fit in our bedroom, and I am far from ready to have him sleep in a different room than us. So we are thinking that during the weekend we will start using the travel cot.

This will force us to change the sleep routine as we currently have been bathing him at around 9.45 pm then give him a bottle feed at 10 and then Steve sits with him until he falls asleep and then puts him in his moses basket. Then at about 1 am he brings him up to the bedroom (in the basket that has been standing downstairs). With the travel cot we will have to settle him in the bedroom and not downstairs, so we will have to come up with a new plan. I suspect we keep him up for way too long, so I think to push bath time forward too start is the first step.

Otherwise my boy is doing ok, he is now 5.8 kilos and growing bigger by each week that goes. Took him for a long walk in his baby carrier, even went on the train, and he loved it. My back didn’t love it, but I am guessing this will be really good excersise for me.

Right my son is asleep in Steve’s lap so I should go and put myself to bed also.

Nighty Night

xoxo
