Baby, MS and Me Home

The art of napping

Up till a few weeks ago, I hardly ever got any naps during the day. I would try to put Tycho in his basket when he nodded off in my arms, but most of the time he would just wake up minutes later. Then about 4 weeks ago when it was really hot, I discovered Co-Sleeping.

I had always been very worried about having him in bed with me, in case I’d roll on to him or fall asleep on him, and no matter how many people told me that would not happen, I didn’t trust them. After all, the papers about Co-Sleeping advice against it if you are massively tired, so with my fatigue I thought I better not.  But during this very hot week our bedroom was really the only place we could be in. So I started it by laying down feeding, and I noticed how much more relaxed both him and me became. So I tucked one hand under my head and one around his feet, and closed my eyes and drifted off. Now it is true what they say you don’t go 100% to sleep, but enough to get rested. And the closeness is really lovely.

As long as you don’t suffer from really bad fatigue I would recommend this way of feeding to anyone who is worn out, with MS or without, as just a few moments of shut eye is better than none. Tycho very often falls asleep in this position too, then I can sit up in bed and do some reading or watch telly, if not just go to sleep there next to him.

He sometimes gets upset if he wakes up and I am not laying there next too him, this morning I had some things that needed doing so after Tycho fell asleep next to me, I traded places with Steve. About an hour later I could hear a huge angry cry from upstairs.  Tycho had not appreciated our switching trick. But then again as I said to my husband; what would you think If you went to bed next to a lovely lady and woke up next to a hairy man!
