Tycho finally put on some weight this week. We have been running operation Hanzel here, feeding him up. I gave in to giving him some more formula, so he get 3 bottles a day with formula, plus anything I have managed to express. I refuse to do what the GP said last week and “pack it in” as the breastfeeding for me is very important. Yes I have to think of my own health and not stress out over this, but comforting a sad and crying baby with a bottle…well it just isn’t the same. Plus he gets terrible wind after gulping down the bottle and cries after each bottle feed. Each to their own I say, you just got to do what is important to you and your baby, if that is breastfeeding, mixed feeding or formula feeding. But during this last week he put on 200 grams, and the gp was happy. (more…)

Sunday Update

Had a lovely day yesterday, we manged to pop Tycho in the pram and stayed outside from 2.30 to 7.oo. I braved feeding him at a Costa Coffee. I have always been quite shy so it did feel a bit funny at first, but it all went rather nicely. No-one payed much notice to me, so I didn’t feel too awkward at all. As I am still told not to push him around myself I am trying to make the most of the time while Steve is around. (more…)
Nearly 3 weeks

Tomorrow Tycho will be 3 weeks old. Time is moving fast, but on the other hand it feels like this has been our life for a long time. We are getting a little more sleep, maybe manage 4-5 hours a night, not all in one go ofcourse but between feedings. He has started putting some weight on, so we are still doing the formula feed at 10 pm, then I normally go to bed and Steve stays up with Tycho, until he falls asleep and then take him upstairs, then I do night service. Hellie vs Milk Vampire round 2

So 3 nights in a row now we have given in to giving Tycho formula at 10 pm. The midwife was getting worried about my health from getting no sleep what so ever, plus the fact that Tycho was still loosing weight. Now we do get a little more sleep and Tycho has put on 30 grams, so I guess this is ok. But I actually felt awful giving him the formula the first time. It felt like I couldn’t do anything right. It is 06.46 Sunday morning, we have just had a feed at 6 o’clock were Tycho really just wanted to sleep. Now i am downstairs expressing milk, to try and up my production. Tycho has lost a pound since birth and we have to feed him at least every 3 hours now. During the last few days I don’t think i have been sleeping more than maybe 1 or 2 hours. I guess people weren’t kidding when they say the first few months you’ll never sleep. This week if he doesn’t put on more weight we might have to think about adding formula to the feed too. I really don’t want to do this, so i do everything I can to feed him and get my own production going. (more…)
