Mum with cold + son with teething = not so good

13th August 2009 by Hellie

I seem to have caught a cold. I guess in these flu seasons I am lucky it is only a cold. The news have really scared me about swine flu and for a while I was just thinking about how to avoid it non stop.  But since Monday I have been sniffing and sneezing. Not great, I am feeling rather blerghy. And to make things worse I think Tycho is teething, he is drooling like a trooper and chews on his fist and fingers all the time. I have also spotted something on his gum in his lower jaw that looks a bit like something raising underneath. Now the drooling I can take, I seem to be just as soaked as him at times, but at times he cries and cries and cries. A wailing cry whilst chomping away on his fist, and his sleeping has become worse. He was actually sleeping from about 11 pm to 7 am but now he doesn’t want to go to sleep and he wakes up around 4 crying. I was planning on taking him down to the health centre this week to ask if my suspicions are correct about the teething before I start applying bonjela and giving him Calpol, but since I got this cold we have been stuck indoors sniffing and drooling together!

Sick, sick and more sick

8th February 2009 by Hellie

I haven’t been able to blog for awhile as I have pretty much been tucked up in bed since Tuesday evening.  The cold I wrote about then, developed into something else.  I had been coughing all day and started to ache in my lungs, when I suddenly had a thought that maybe it was really nasty heartburn, so I tried to call the midwife to find out what I could take for it, but she was not in. As the pain grew stronger and stronger, I tried to call NHS direct for some advice. This was when the fun started. I won’t write the whole thing down as it will get very boring, but it ended with a GP calling me up and telling me I needed to go into an out  hours service at the hospital and be checked up. I was in pain but felt a bit silly. But got I a taxi up to the hospital and the GP diagnosed me with a respiratory tract infection and a “fruity” (his words not mine) cough.
