For his next fundraising adventure, our supporter Nick Jolly will be riding 2,500 miles to Hungary on his Vespa scooter. He tells us about the inspiration behind his challenge.
My name is Nick Jolly and I am excited to be raising money and awareness of MS through my next fundraising adventure!
In June, at the age of 59 and a half, I plan to ride my Vespa scooter to Zanka Hungary to attend Vespa World Day alongside other Vespa fanatics from across the world. The total distance I will ride will be around 2,500 miles.
The support I have received from my MS nurse has helped me gain a better understanding of my condition and how to best manage my MS
Although this is a challenge in itself, the additional challenge is that in 2017 I was diagnosed with relapsing remitting MS. Three years ago I struggled to get out of the front door without support and here I am riding across Europe! Myself and friends have regularly ventured into Europe to attend Scooter events over the past 30 years, but when I was being diagnosed with MS, I was unable to attend, so this represents both a personal and physical challenge for me. Although every day has its challenges, I am determined to do the best I can with what I have got and inspire others to do the same.
The trip will be financed by myself with 100% of funds raised going to the MS Trust, to support their essential work training and funding new MS nurses. The support I have received from my MS nurse has helped me gain a better understanding of my condition and how to best manage my MS.
Whilst my experience has been a positive one, I have noticed how stretched the service has become and know that in different parts of the country access to an MS nurse is not always available. This is why I am determined to raise funds to help provide this service and ensure everyone with MS receives the support I have done.
I have set myself a target of £2,000 and I’m excited to have raised £855 so far - only another £1,145 to go!
