Surrey Multiple Sclerosis Specialist Services - evolving to offer genuine multidisciplinary care

The Surrey MS Specialist Service group has developed in the past three years from a single MS specialist nurse to a full complement of six MS specialist practitioners. Some of the posts are filled not by nurses but healthcare professionals from other disciplines (occupational therapy, and physiotherapy).

This poster aims to demonstrate how this multidisciplinary group offers benefits to the MS specialists, and people living with MS in the Surrey area, both in terms of support within the peer group, and for effective outcomes for the person with MS. We describe some case studies to illustrate this.

We also examine how the development of this service has been a positive cooperation of close working between the NHS, MS Trust, MS Society and the Pharmaceutical Industry to provide the funding and education required to provide this level of service provision.
