Pathways and commissioning the wider picture
Laitner S, Consultant in Public Health Medicine, West Herts PCT
A 'Commissioning Pathway' for multiple sclerosis has been developed by the MS Trust, in partnership with Pathways for Health.
The content of the commissioning pathway was agreed at a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary national consensus event on 11 June, after months of expert review.
The pathway describes the key interventions in the pathway of care for people with multiple sclerosis from initial presentation and clinical assessment, through to specialist referral, diagnostic tests and ongoing treatment.
Evidence based interventions are presented at a high level for the purposes of commissioning.
The pathway framework, together with its clinical content, will be described and set in the context of World Class Commissioning and the Darzi Vision for Long Term Conditions.
