Double success at BMA Patient Information Awards
The MS Trust is delighted to announce that two of our publications were recognised at the 2008 British Medical Association (BMA) Patient Information Awards. Sexuality and MS: a guide for women, written in conjunction with Lecturer Practitioner in MS, Nicki Ward-Abel, was awarded first prize for Patient Information in the Women's Health category. Also, Move it for MS, an exercise DVD featuring Mr Motivator and produced in conjunction with MS specialist physiotherapist Liz Betts, received a Highly Commended award.
MS Explained - revised edition now available
MS can be a difficult condition to explain to family and friends, so in 2004 the MS Trust published MS Explained to give a basic introduction to MS. A fully revised 2nd edition is now available. In response to feedback, as well as looking at the immune system, the nervous system and what goes wrong in MS, the new version now includes an extensive section on current research and possible future approaches.
Tips for living with MS - new design
Since the first edition, Tips has been one of the MS Trust's most popular publications. The book is a compilation of nearly 150 useful ideas sent in by people with MS, including practical suggestions on maintaining a positive outlook, saving time and energy, getting around, making the most of benefits and getting equipped. It also contains a list of useful contacts. A newly redesigned reprint is now available to order.
Spasticity and spasms factsheet
The MS Trust has published a new factsheet on spasticity and spasms. The factsheet looks at what causes these symptoms and how they might be managed. It is based on two articles written by Louise Jarrett, spasticity nurse specialist, which were published in the last two issues of Open Door, our newsletter for people affected by MS.
Revised DMT book
Revision of the MS Trust publication Disease modifying therapy: what you need to know is ongoing and we look forward to publishing the book in early spring. In addition to its new structure, the revised version includes updated information about the beta interferons, new sections dedicated to the use of natalizumab, and discussion about the use of unlicensed therapies in the treatment of MS. The new publication will be available to order directly from the MS Trust and downloadable from the MS Trust website.
- Read, order or download Disease modifying therapy (the old version of the book is available until the revised version is published)
