Current research projects
Our research focus remains on three key areas: improving services, improving treatments and improving support.
Improving services
GEMSS (Generating evidence in multiple sclerosis services)
This project aims to help professionals working in MS to evaluate their services, and demonstrate what works best to meet the needs of people with MS and their families. More
Improving treatments
- Pilates based core stability training: an RCT
This clinical trial builds on a previous series of case studies investigating the effectiveness of core stability training in improving people's mobility and balance. More
- Bone marrow cell treatment for chronic multiple sclerosis
This study is investigating whether cells taken from the bone marrow can slow down the progression of MS in people with secondary or primary progressive MS. More
Improving support
- Can a fatigue management programme developed for one centre be replicated at other UK sites?
A group fatigue management programme for people with MS was previously developed in a pilot study at University Hospital, Birmingham. The overall aim of this three year study is to test whether the programme can achieve reproducible results when used in a further eight centres throughout the United Kingdom. More
