To monitor disease activity, by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), in participants in the CUPID trial (Cannabinoid use in Progressive Inflammatory Disease)

Peninsula Medical School, Plymouth

CUPID is a large randomised placebo-controlled trial testing the use of cannabinoids over three years in people with progressive MS. The study will test the hypothesis that, aside from any effect on symptoms, cannabis has a role to play in protecting the nerves from further deterioration.

Recruitment to CUPID is now complete with 493 people with primary or secondary progressive MS participating at 27 sites across the UK. The results are expected in spring/early summer 2012.

For further information on the trial, visit the CUPID website.
