The use of cannabis based medicine extracts to treat bladder dysfunction in people with advanced MS
National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, London
This study, begun in October 2000, was designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability and efficacy of sublingual cannabis based medicinal extract for urinary and secondary symptoms in patients with advanced MS.
Although only a small group of people with MS took part in the trial, they were selected on the basis of their lack of response to any other previous treatment for their bladder problems. The results demonstrated improvement in urinary urgency, frequency and incontinence with few troublesome side effects. The researchers recommend that further studies should be carried out.
Results have been presented at a number of conferences and published in the journal below.
