The voting has closed, the nominations have been counted and we can now announce that the winners of our My MS Super Team awards 2014 are Lesley Catterall and Denise Middleton, MS specialists based in Milton Keynes, and the Wessex MS Therapy Centre in Warminster.
Lesley is an MS specialist nurse and Denise is an MS specialist with a background in occupational therapy. Working for Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, they support people living with MS in and around Milton Keynes. “We’re overwhelmed to be nominated,” said Lesley on being told of her win. “We both love supporting patients with MS and feel very lucky to have such rewarding and fulfilling job.”
Wessex MS Therapy Centre in Warminster, Wiltshire, is an independent charity and provides therapies, information and practical and emotional support for people with multiple sclerosis, their carers and families. Centre Manager Rosie Eliot said “On behalf of all the staff, therapists, and volunteers at the Wessex MS Therapy Centre, I want to say a very big thank you to the MS Trust for making us feel so special, and to our members for nominating us. Our centre is a special place and we believe our work contributes to ‘positive living with MS’”.
We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate their MS specialists this year. Since voting opened at the end of March we’ve received hundreds of nominations from people affected by MS. Each nomination came with a little tribute to the MS health professionals being nominated, giving a real insight into the tremendous impact they can have.
Wessex MS Therapy Team: Neil Tipping, Assistant physiotherapist; Rosie Eliot, Manager; Sue Watts, Assistant Physiotherapist
The MS Trust is one of the UK’s leading supporters of MS specialists and we fight to keep them in post. Over the last year we have developed new tools to help MS teams demonstrate the impact of their work and safeguard their roles now and for the future.
At the MS Trust we believe that everyone with MS should have access to a specialist team, but we are very aware that there are still gaps in the service. If you have had problems getting access to an MS nurse, or have had problems with the service you’ve received, read our blog post.
Although Lesley, Denise and the Wessex MS Therapy Centre have been named as overall winners, we’d like to reaffirm that, based on the feedback from this year’s campaign, there are MS Super Teams all over the country. Congratulations to all of you, and thanks to everyone who has made this year’s ‘My MS Super Team such a fantastic success.
