Helen Amos and her husband opened their garden to raise funds for the MS Trust and invited neighbours from their Northamptonshire village.

Here she tells us about their event and about her love for gardening.

We were so fortunate with the weather on 7th June, with a lovely day sandwiched between several cold miserable days. So many lovely friends and neighbours helped and between us we raised £900 from tickets, refreshments, raffle and a golf competition. I also ran a treasure hunt for children.

I have been a passionate gardener all my adult life. My husband and I created our garden (more than an acre) from scratch over 20 years. Until about three years ago I was able to do most things in the garden and, given the chance, would be gardening from dawn till dusk. Sadly as my condition has deteriorated I have been able to do less and less and my husband has taken over most of the jobs I love to do. For the first time this year we have engaged a bit of outside help.

I love to share the garden and decided to open it up to villagers. More than 100 people came and everyone had a lovely relaxing time. One elderly lady describe it as "like the Royal Garden Party without the formality"!
