Which trials and where?

Little figures forming a question mark

If you're interested in taking part in a clinical trial, discuss it first with your neurologist or MS nurse as they will normally be required to refer you.

They may also know of a trial that would be suitable for you.

Unfortunately there isn't a comprehensive resource that contains all the information about clinical trials that are currently being undertaken in the UK. However there are a number of web sites that contain information about clinical trials (which are detailed below.)

Trials may be single centre (one hospital), or multi centred (a number of hospitals throughout the UK and sometimes Europe and the rest of world). The location where a trial takes place is usually dictated by where doctors with specialist interest and expertise and the appropriate resources are based. This may mean that even if you are eligible for a trial, the study centre may be too far away for you to attend for regular tests.

  • UK Clinical Trials Gateway Collates information from a number of clinical trial registers and provides easy to understand information about clinical research trials running in the UK.
  • ClinicalTrials.gov This is an international site used by both pharmaceutical companies and academic institutions. MS trials with study centres in the UK currently recruiting.
  • TrialReach This website helps you find clinical trials with study centres near to you. The home page prompts you to enter a medical condition, your location, and specify how far you are prepared to travel. Details of individual clinical trials can be selected from the list of studies.
