Sponsored headshave in Sedgefield library

£50 Fundraising Challenge

Katie Burkill organised displays of MS information at Sedgefield, Trimdon and Wingate libraries as part of MS Awareness Week. Katie works in Sedgefield library and wanted to help raise awareness because she has multiple sclerosis.

Going the extra mile, Katie also managed to persuade her colleague Niall Wallace, a library assistant at Wingate library, to have half his hair and beard shaved off for the cause. At 4pm on the 7th May in Wingate library, Niall's manager Elaine Coulson from Trimdon did the damage with the clippers.

Katie said "The whole event has been a huge success, loads of people have asked questions about MS and we've far surpassed our target of £50, raising over £300 for the MS Trust. We've been delighted with the response and support we've received from the public and work colleagues, and Niall's been a great sport."

Asked what he thought at the loss of his hair Niall said "It was a hair raising experience (every pun intended), I was sweating buckets but it's for a good cause and I was happy to support Katie. My girlfriend is not going to be pleased though."

Niall will keep his new hairstyle for a week.

The MS Trust would like to say a huge thank you to Katie and Niall for their support, also to Sedgefield, Trimdon and Wingate libraries.
