Foundation training (Development Module)


Who is the course designed for?

The Development of Multiple Sclerosis Care and Management for Specialists module is a 3 - month course for new in post (a minimum of 3-6 months onwards) MS specialist nurses, therapists and other health professionals who specialise in supporting people with MS.

The module provides a strong foundation of MS knowledge upon which additional specialist knowledge can develop and covers a host of clinical and professional issues relevant to HPs undertaking a specialist role.

The MS Trust has entered into a collaborative partnership with The Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences at Birmingham City University to deliver this module and your assignment can earn you 20 credits at Level 6 (undergraduate) or Level 7 (Masters).

How the course is delivered

The course starts with a week of hybrid learning 4 days of which will be located at the Cromwell Hotel in Stevenage for in person teaching and one day online. After the taught sessions you have 3 months to work on your assignment. This course is equivalent to 200 study hours. You will receive continued support for your assignment via online tutorials.

Entry Requirements

You must be working at band 6 or above to be eligible for this course. We would also expect you to have been in post for at least 3 months and have a caseload of 50% or higher for MS patients.

Funding

The MS Trust is committed to offer a fixed number of fully funded places to those working in a MS Specialist Nurse role. Nurses working in other roles (i.e. MS support nurse, MS infusion nurse) should contact the MS Trust for advice about funding your learning.

NHS Trusts also have education funding available if you apply for them.

The cost for the course, for those not entitled to a funded place, is £1,780 + VAT. This includes the cost to register with Birmingham City University (£280) to complete the assignment, please note the assignment is compulsory. Please contact education@mstrust.org.uk for further details.
