Regulation of NHS hospitals
All NHS hospitals in England must be licensed by the regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC). To be licensed, hospitals must show that they are meeting essential standards of quality and safety, which are monitored by CQC.
In Scotland the equivalent role is taken by Healthcare Improvement Scotland.
