Ben Nevis Trek FAQs

How much will it cost?

£95 registration fee + £600 minimum sponsorship. The actual costs of the trip are £295 so the MS Trust receives £295 plus every penny raised over the minimum sponsorship. The sponsorship raised will enable the MS Trust to take positive steps to improve the lives of people living with MS today. Please bear in mind that 80% of your minimum sponsorship will be due to the MS Trust 12 weeks before the start of the trip.

What's included?

Accommodation (3* hotel), travel by minibus between Glasgow and Fort William, meals, water, refreshments and UK mountain leaders. Most dietary requirements can be catered for, please advise us at point of booking.

Is the trip for me?

This trip is suitable for people with a sense of adventure, who want to do a hiking challenge for a great cause. You may not know anyone at the start, but by the end you will have made some great friends for life, an added bonus of this challenge!

How fit do I need to be?

You certainly do not have to be an athlete to complete this trek, but it is advised that you train in order to get the most from this experience. The terrain on this trek is tough but do not fear, we will provide you with a comprehensive training guide and are always on hand to help you with training tips in the lead up to departure.

Can I take part if I have MS?

Many people with MS take part in our treks and cycle rides without any problems, but this is a physically demanding event so you do need to be generally fit and have a good level of mobility. We always suggest that you check with your doctor before signing up to the trip if you have MS or any other pre-existing medical condition. If this trip isn't for you, perhaps you might be interested in some of our more accessible events such as My Garden Party and Be Bold in Blue.

Will you help me?

Yes! From the moment you sign on to the challenge to the trip itself, we’ll be with you every step of the way. You’ll have your own dedicated Event Coordinator who will be on hand to help with anything from providing training tips to discussing fundraising ideas and what to pack. On the challenge itself you’ll be accompanied by an experienced Skyline leader and guides who will work tirelessly to get us all safely and happily to the top of Ben Nevis!

Will I be able to raise the sponsorship money?

YES! As long as you allow plenty of time you'll find that you will have no trouble raising the minimum amount - and then some! We'll send you a fundraising pack containing some simple fundraising ideas and your dedicated MS Trust fundraising officer will support you every step of the way in achieving your targets and making your fundraising fun and easy! See how we can help you fundraise to get you started.

What happens if I don't raise the minimum sponsorship?

We set a minimum sponsorship amount as we have to pay the costs of your place from what you raise. You would need to have raised 80% of the minimum sponsorship 12 weeks before the event otherwise you would lose your place. We would ask that you do as much as you can to reach the target and be prepared to top it up yourself if you don't manage to raise it in sponsorship.

What do I need to bring?

We will provide you with a full kit list tailored to your trek once you have signed up so that you will be fully prepared before you go. The changeable weather in the mountains means it is especially important to purchase good quality kit and equipment that suits you - never underestimate the importance of good walking boots! It’s vital to trek with comfortable shoes that you have worn in during your training months. You will only need to carry your day pack with your essential items during the trek, such as waterproofs, warm layers (including gloves and hat) and a water carrier.
